A busy entrepreneur’s guide to productivity

26075883_SDo you ever feel like there are not enough minutes in the day? You’re not alone. As a busy entrepreneur, you don’t have much time to waste. Get more out of your day with these tried-and-true productivity tips:

Prioritize. Famous author Stephen Covey popularized “the matrix.” Not be be confused with the 90s cult film, the matrix is a way to maximize your time by assigning tasks different levels of urgency. First quadrant tasks are pressing and important—emergencies. The second quadrant is for the important but not urgent. Quadrant four is reserved for the urgent but not important—distractions.

Use tech to your advantage. Online calendars and other apps can help keep you on task and streamline planning. But be wary of trends. If a tool that works for someone else doesn’t work for you, then you may need to keep looking.

Don’t fall into the “busy” trap.  Our culture puts a great emphasis on being “busy” and not necessarily productive. It’s most important to create a culture at a company that’s results-based. It’s easy to look “busy” but the proof is in outcome.

Get out of your bubble every now and then. It’s easy to stick with what we know, especially when it comes to networking. But that can actually work against you. For example, if you are a cake decorator, instead of only going to networking events for the wedding industry, you may want to mix it up and attend some events for tech types. This is especially important if technology is not your strong suit. You might meet some professionals who will give you advice or resources to help boost your business. You may even walk out of there with a lead or two!
